About WireGuard

WireGuard is a next-generation VPN protocol that is simpler, faster, and more secure than traditional VPN solutions. It uses state-of-the-art cryptography and consists of roughly 4,000 lines of code, compared to hundreds of thousands for OpenVPN or IPsec.

The protocol is built into the Linux kernel since version 5.6, providing native performance. It is also available for Windows, macOS, BSD, iOS, and Android.

WireGuard uses a cryptokey routing concept where each peer has a public key and a list of allowed IP addresses. The simplicity of configuration makes it easy to audit and deploy.

Many commercial VPN services and networking tools (including Tailscale, Mullvad, and Cloudflare WARP) are built on top of WireGuard, testament to its protocol quality.
